NEWS LETTER
June 2009

I am sure that by now someone must have caught a fish off the Club water but news has not reached us. If anyone does have an interesting river/fish story then do let me know.

Competitions:-

Club Competitions : As per last year the competitions will take place at the Achagour Fish Ponds, Ardclach, Nairn.

The Senior Competition will take place on the evening of Thursday June 25th. Please phone John Szarkiewicz (782631) or Yorky (782785) and let him know a) if you will be taking part in the Competition and b) if you want to travel by bus (the more ecological and sociable option). The bus will leave the square at 5.30 prompt. We can arrange a pick up in Inverness if required. The cost is set at £20.00 per person and if the charges are higher these will be met by the Club. Please let us know asap if you want to take part.

The Junior Competition Saturday 4th July. Transport to Achagour will be by bus which will be in the Square from 2.30pm and leaving at 3pm. We hope that this earlier start will mean that we get people home before midnight. Both the Competition and the bus will be free for the Juniors. Please let Yorky (782785) know if you want to take part. We are looking for adults to help with the Junior Competition – if you are willing please let Yorky know.

Results : Loch Meig - 25th April – The BAC Team consisted of Neil Mackenzie, Frankie Durdle and John Gunn. The Competition was won by the Black Isle with 4 fish weighing 4lb 10&7/8oz. BAC came second with 3 fish weight 4lb 2&3/8oz. We won this competition in 2005 and have been runners up every year since missing out by just a few ounces. So no change there then. The Cup for the heaviest fish went to our very own Neil Mackenzie with a trout of 1lb 11&7/8 oz. Congrats to the team.

Loch Watten – 23rd May – the same team represented us at the Highland Federation Competition on Loch Watten. 22 teams competed. Thurso’s Royal British Legion came first with a total of 16 fish. John Blake also from Thurso had the heaviest fish (2lb 12 oz) and the heaviest bag (12 fish weighing 16lb 8oz). The runners up were Loch Ruthven Fly Fishers. BAC came 5th.

To Come : The British Legion Competition will take place on 20th June. BAC will be represented by Duncan Fraser, Ian McHardy and Neil MacKenzie. Tight lines.

Bank Clearing : This will take place between 11am-2pm on Sunday 5th July – meet at Beat 1 at 11a.m.

River Walks : John Szarkiewicz has already completed 2 river walks showing people the beats, pools and how to access them. Such was the demand he has a couple more to do. He sends his apologies for not getting back to people sooner – we’ve had the builders in. If you want to go on such a walk and are not on the list then ring John on 01463 782631 or e-mail him Szarky@dsl.pipex.com.

Crayfish : These have colonised the Nairn so anyone fishing the Nairn should ensure that their waders have completely dried out so as not to accidentally transfer eggs.

Save You Energy : This is a new local business being set up by Archie Prentice, one of the Beauly Angling Club members. He helps customers reduce their home energy bills and make their homes more energy efficient. And he guarantees he'll help you save more than his fee over the next 12 months or he will refund the difference. With energy prices set to rise in the future, there's never been a better time to improve the energy efficiency of your home. With Archie offering Beauly Angling Club members a 15% discount, you have a chance to save even more. To get your home energy makeover, contact Archie on 01463 831224.

Tight lines
