Oct 2000 NEWSLETTER

DID YOU GET YOUR SHARE? This season has been much better than '99 which was unfortunately our worst season ever. Bob Crichton appears to have had the biggest salmon at just over 8lbs; plus a few others! Jim Armitage had one almost as big. Yorkie appears to have caught the largest sea trout at nearly 4 lbs.; what an improvement we've seen since he discarded his antique tackle! Regarding numbers of fish, we will probably have at least 35 salmon/grilse and more sea trout than last year. The fact that we are returning nearly all of our sea trout and finnock is possibly already making a difference. Ray Langley kept his promise to Pat and returned his first salmon; unfortunately it was the only one he landed! Meantime, the main purpose of this communication is to remind you that we want to see you all at our AGM, so please read on.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - This year we again meet upstairs in the Phipps Hall, Beauly at 7.30pm, but on Thursday 16th November. You will see from the Agenda that we have quite a bit to discuss, so please try to attend.

A.G.M. AGENDA - 1. APOLOGIES, 2. MINUTES OF LAST AGM, 3. RETURNS FOR 2000, 4. CUP FOR HEAVIEST FISH, 5. JUNIOR TROPHY FOR HEAVIEST SEA TROUT, 6. TREASURER'S REPORT, 7. ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS & COMMITTEE, 8. DISCUSSION OF RULE CHANGES/CLARIFICATION, 9. FISHING EXPENSES & PERMIT COSTS, 10. AOCB.

S.A N.A. - BAC and several of its individual members are paid up members of the Scottish Anglers National Association.
It is trying hard to raise money towards the 'National Game Angling Centre for Scotland' to be constructed shortly on the shores of Loch Leven in Fife. An information pack will be circulating at the AGM; I should still have a few 'Superdraw' raffle tickets for sale on the evening of the 16th. Proceeds go towards the planned Centre.

RETURNS: We don't really want to fine you so please help us to achieve a 100% submission of returns for the-first time ever by getting your returns in by 31st Oct. 2000. Remember that nil returns must also be submitted for all member categories.

BALBLAIR LANDFILL PROPOSAL - So far, it looks as if as if the magnificent opposition to the ludicrous proposal has worked. However, should a formal application be lodged at any time in the future, we would hope that you will all still send in your individual/separate letters of objection. BAC has already donated £100 to BAD and is prepared to donate more if necessary. It seems that in order to try to maintain our humble fishings, we have to assert ourselves on an increasingly regular basis!

CAR STICKERS - Thanks Paul; the stickers look great. What a good idea - other Angling Clubs take note!

WEB SITE - Thanks again to Paul Summerlin for yet another great idea. The BAC Web Site is most interesting and well worth a visit. I've no doubt that it will get better and better, particularly as we all become more computer literate. Our address is www.beauly-angling-club.co.uk. Paul is looking for more photo's, etc for the site, so please check your albums.

RIVER IMPROVEMENT WORKS - We did most of what we intended to and successfully cleared and opened up two important local spawning burns. The effort by relatively few members was magnificent and the free beers provided were well earned; that was our 'incentive scheme'!

ANNUAL LOCH FISHING COMPETITIONS - The winner of the Junior Competition on the Tarvie Bait Loch was Matthew Mackenzie; well done Matthew - see and give your dad Neil some tips. From memory, I think the winner of the Senior Competition on Loch Tarvie was Allan Cameron with a cracking 6 pounder. Thanks again to Donald Fraser of Morison the Ironmongers for the prizes. Thanks also to Gerry at Tarvie. Ever lucky Jimmy Morrison won the draw.

FISHY STORY - I now have a few of them, including at least one excellent poem, but unfortunately don't have any room this time to print them. However, please keep them coming and I'll use the best of them in due course. Incidentally, I was asked to tell you about Allan Brindles epic battle during the grilse run, however there's no way we've room to tell that story - what do you think Zaki'? Apparently it could have been a contender for the heaviest fish, but lost too much weight during the lengthy battle. Sorry Allan - I know I promised not to say anything' but at least you had a battle - I didn't!
