CONCESSIONARY WATERS

Members are fortunate in having been offered concessionary prices on a number of excellent local fisheries, simply by being in possession of a current BAC permit. For the 2006 Season they are:

I. Loch Nam-Bonnach, a beautiful 75 acre loch which nestles in the hills above Beauly. It has been stocked with prime hard fighting brown trout. See Donald Fraser at Morison, Ironmongers, of Beauly (Tel.782213) for details of cost and boat availability; bank fishing is not permitted. Club members receive a £2/4hr session discount, which reduces the cost to £10 for 2006.

2. Loch Achilty near Contin, a magnificent 100 acre loch which holds a number of interesting species of fish in its considerable depths; which must be fished by boat. 'Phone for bookings (Tel. 01997 421245/402). BAC members may fish for £10 each (normally £13).

3. Tarvie Lochs Fishery above Loch Garve is a Troutmasters venue. Although the main loch is only around 10 acres in size, it is stocked and holds some big rainbow and brown trout which must be fished for by boat only. Contact John Knox for bookings (Tel. 01997 421250). Ther is a 10% discount for BAC members.

4. Kelpie Loch near Muir-of-Ord is a small bank only fishery which actually breeds the hard-fighting Orrin Blue rainbow trout. Contact Billy Bartlett for details (Tel. 01997 433219). Members are charged £8/4hr session with 3 fish (normally £10).

5. Stoneyfield Lochs at Newmore above Invergordon is a family-run Troutmasters fishery containing some very big rainbow trout. Browns are also present in the three available lochs. For bookings, 'phone John or Jennifer Connell on 01349 852632. 6. Abban Water at Lochend (off the A82) is a new fishery that holds hard fighting rainbow trout, some brown trout, plus the occasional pike and perch. It is around 20 acres in size and is fished by boat only. Contact Pat or Robin MacLeod at the Loch to check availability (Tel: 01463 861253 Mob. 07947 897624) or J.Graham & Co., Castle Street, Inverness (Tel: 01463 233178) who also take bookings. The cost has not been confirmed yet.

7. River Farrar which runs through one of the most beautiful glens to be found anywhere in the World. The river holds brown trout and salmon, the latter from around late July each year. The salmon fishing is available for half price on a day before booking basis. Saturdays can be booked a week before. 'Phone Frank or Juliet Spencer-Nairn for price details (Tel.01463 761285); the price rises as the salmon numbers increase towards the end of the season.

8. Strathglass Fishings in Cannich. 6 boats on Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin (Benevian) in Glen Affric. 25 % Discount on loch fishings. Call Duncan MacLennan 01456 415477 or go to their site

EXCHANGE TICKET WATERS

Currently BAC members may use exchange tickets as follows:

River Ness Angling Club. Basically the fishing covers around three miles of the Town Water: it can be very productive when the grilse runs are on.

Loch Achonachie Angling Club water ranges extensively from stretches of the Rivers Conon and Blackwater to Lochs Achonachie and Meig etc. Why not explore these unspoiled waters?

Dingwall Angling Club water on the River Conon covers around two miles of the tidal/estuary fly only fishings and can be good for sea trout as well as salmon. Please note that the rules specify that only thigh/waist waders must be worn; no doubt in order to reduce disturbance to fish from unnecessarily deep wading. Please check the rules for the numbers of fish that can be taken when using the exchange tickets.

River Nairn Angling Club. Their water is both extensive and prolific: what a delight to fish! Spinning reels can only be used when the water level is above a specified height: please check the rules carefully before starting to fish.

Inverurie Angling Association water covers the Keithhall and the Ardmurdo fishings on the River Don. Good early season and back end salmon fishing in addition to sea trout: can be well worth the trip. Both spinning and fly fishing methods are permitted. Fishing is restricted to Mon.,Tues.,Wed. and Fridays only.

Alness Angling Club. They control part of the beaultiful Alness River, also called the Averon. Fishing is by fly only. This can be a very productive spate river.

Why not make more use of these tickets? You will find that the welcome and help that we try to give to visiting anglers is invariably reciprocated. Exchange tickets may be collected if available from Morison, Beauly from noon the day before fishing, and must be reutned in time for the shop opening the day after fishing.

NOTE: BAC still retain Thursdays and Saturdays as their members exclusive days (largely because our best fly only salmon water is fairly limited in size). However Exchange Ticket holders may fish our significant portion of the Beauly Firth anytime, other than Sundays, for sea trout while using fly, spinner or even bait. See map in the permit or the maps above.
