BAC July newsletter.
Hello All,
I hope this newsletter finds you all well. We have had a fair bit of low water this season which is encouraging especially when we head into the prime time for our beats. I have been hearing reports of a few fish being caught up at the dam and along the system which is very pleasing to hear. I was out myself last week and managed a lovely fresh sea trout of around ¾ of a pound and saw another club member catch two the same evening. It is great to see some sea trout coming back into the system this year.
The juniors have now started again run by Yorky. There have been good numbers of keen junior anglers attending the sessions so far and I hope with the nice weather we have been having that this will continue. We are keen to get as many junior anglers giving fly fishing a go with quite a few members in the club who are all too keen to help and give pointers don’t be scared to give it a go.
This year we thought about running a ladies day down on the river to encourage ladies into the sport who had previously not thought about trying it or didn’t know how to start. This year it was a bit too rushed to make it as beneficial as possible so my attention is now going to setting one up around March/April time next year. If you are interested in attending a ladies day please respond to this newsletter so we can get the wheels in motion to make it a memorable day for all. The ladies day would be a day of learning river craft, casting techniques, river etiquette and also how to tie some beautiful flies.
As we are well into the season now the senior competition is fast approaching us. This year it will be held at Geddes fishery near Cawdor on the 26th of July from 4 to 8pm. If you are interested in taking part please contact Neil Mackenzie on 07955 847251 as soon as possible please.
This year there has been a couple of inter club competitions one at Loch Meig and the other at Loch Watten both competitions had representation from Beauly Angling Club but alas none of our members came out victors.
Some of you may not be aware that the club has a number of exchange tickets available throughout the season which are well worth a cast spanning as far a field as Aberdeen.
I will finish this newsletter with the eternal optimism that every salmon angler needs to posses with the statement that now is the time to fish the club water as there is a very good chance of a fish and who knows it might be a monster if tales from further up the river are anything to go by.
Tight lines everyone see you on the bank soon.
