January 2018 Newsletter

A Happy New Year fellow anglers,

We hope that you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to the 2018 season.

The New season commencement is a Sunday and we then are allowed to start fishing on the Monday 12th of February, therefore the clubs “celebration“  of the opening of the Fishing will be on Saturday 17th.  It will take place at the Fishing Hut on the Downie Beats above the Lovat Bridge at 11am.  We hope you will come and share a dram and food provided by the club and The Ord Distillery may yet again “allow” us a dram or two of their superb Singleton 12-year malt. We usually have a Piper and the Chairperson will toast the river with some of that same Dram.

The A.G.M in late November was attended by 19 keen members on what was a very frosty evening at the Lovat Arms Hotel Beauly. For those who were not there the returns for 2017 were as follows: –

Salmon / Grilse:  14
Sea Trout :         23
Finnock :          172

The cups.
Sea Trout.: TheTom Mightens Cup Winner was Frank Durdle – 3lb 1oz

Salmon: The Matheson Trophy there were  2  Winners  Mark Fisher
Karl Brocklehurst                      Both caught a  7lb Salmon

The AGM elected a new Chairperson in Wendy Harpe, a New Vice Chairperson in Paul Pacey who will continue to be the club’s representative on the Beauly Fishery Board. David Sellers continues as Secretary, and John Brocklehurst as Treasurer.
Other committee members are Neil Mackenzie, Alan Cadden and Jim Braithwaite, Jim will continue as the Clubs representative on the Ness and Beauly Fisheries Trust.

Since the A.G.M the committee has co-opted Paul Summerlin back on the committee as Web-Site manager.

There were changes to the constitution – clauses 2 & 5.  And the rules were changed to reflect the fact that the Beauly River has been re-categorized to level 3.

The Committee along with the River Beauly Fishery Board are doing their best to ensure that this does not become a permanent state of affairs however it will be the case for 2018.  Meanwhile we have the Exchange Tickets which are under used, and are endeavouring to find additional fishings.

The Permits for 2018 are now on sale and Permit renewal forms can be downloaded from the club’s web-site, or from Wendy Harpe at 18 Croyard Drive Beauly IV4 7EE where she will gladly take your payment for your new permit which has a new laminated card and pages with the Rules, Constitution and names, phone numbers and email addresses of committee members. ALSO a sheet with months February to October with places for you to enter ALL your returns for 2018 on the Club water!!

The Downie Beat – the club received confirmation a day or so before Christmas and Dave Sellers is taking names for these, the dates start on the Monday 12th February and go on until the Saturday 31st March. Those of you who fished this last year have been on to Dave for days since the A.G.M and have now got it confirmed are filling the slots quickly.  Just a reminder that you must be a Beauly Angling Club member to fish these rods!!  So, get your permit for 2018 ASAP and then get in-touch with Dave and he can tell you if there are any slots left open.

Keys for the Ferry gate – currently one can be obtained from Wendy Harpe at Croyard Drive. The Club is trying to ensure that ALL disabled members have their own key so if you are disabled and need a key please let me know asap.

Tight Lines for 2018.
