Dear Members

 

Opening Celebration

This year’s opening meet will be held at Lovat Bridge Holiday Park (beat 1) on Saturday 13th Feb. 11.00am. Warm food, a wee drink, good company, the odd speech and piped procession can be enjoyed.

The press will be there and the committee hopes for another great turnout.

 

Downie Beats

   The club has again secured the opportunity to fish these superb beats from 22nd Feb. to 2nd April. at a very reasonable rate of £4 per day. Please contact club secretary Dave Sellers (01463 831721) to book your days’. First come first served. The tail of Groam may also be fished if available but only by prior arrangement with Willie Matheson (Gillie).

 

 

Dates for Your Diary

Entry for all competitions must be made by contacting Neil Mackenzie (782 991), and with limited places early booking is recommended.

 

Pike competition at Loch Fada Sat. 23th April 10 am. – 3.pm, All legitimate methods allowed, bait, fly, spinner, worm, float tubes (special dispensation for this event only). All trout Caught must be returned.

Anglers are encouraged to remove all Pike less than 12lb but return bigger specimens having recorded and witnessed weight.   Largest pike wins.

 

Senior Trout Competion

This season’s competion will take place at Achagour fishery on a date to be announced but it is to be a daytime event this year probably on a Sunday. Further info will be given in due course.

 

Junior Trout Competition

Sat. 2nd July at Orrin Fishery, meet Beauly square at 9 am. Each competitor is guaranteed to catch at least 1 fish otherwise coaching seniors will again have to buy them some chocolate.

 

Loch Meig competition (boat only) run by Achonachie Angling Club is on May 21st. BAC to put in 2 boat teams of three. applicants must contact Neil Mackenzie.

Achonachie are also running a bank competition on Loch Shin on 18th June with refreshments after in the Shin clubhouse, and the Badden Loch comp. is on 3rd September.

 

Following last year’s successful inaugural BAC. interclub trout competition at Loch Watten this year’s event will be at the same venue on Saturday 23rd July. Travel will be by coach and the day includes various prizes, fish or other supper on the

way home and some cracking company. Watten is a top wild trout venue; all fishing is by boat with engine included. Let’s hope Ian McHardy’s engine runs for the full day this year!

 

A  Members Day is being organized for Sunday 3rd July at Lovat Bridge holiday Park to include various activities and events details to be provided nearer the time.

 

A Firth competition is also proposed for August, again further details will be given soon.

 

 

 

Permits.

  Permits are now available from J Szarkiewicz, 18 Croyard Drive, Beauly. (782 631)

Please note the following changes from last year:

Guests are now allowed to fish Monday to Saturday Associate members can now become full members after 5 consecutive years

Exchange tickets are now available for Aberdeen And District Angling Association fishing’s on the River Don, River Dee and the River Ythan.

 

   Please  also note that all prices for 2016 are the same as 2015

 

Conservation

   Catch limits contained in the Permit are superseded by the Scottish Governments recent announcement that for the river Beauly (amongst others) ALL SALMON AND GRILSE MUST BE RETURNED FOR THE DURATION OF THE 2016 SEASON.

Please note that attempts to lift this 100% catch and release are dependent on numbers caught, the more we catch the better our chances!

 

Sad News

   Jim Braithwaite’s’ lad, Alexander, a former club member, sadly passed away recently. The club made a donation and Jim, Anne and Michael have asked me to pass on their thanks for the kind wishes and donations they have received.

 

   Ferry Gate

2 further keys have been made available to the club and these will be held by J Szarkiewicz and Mike Fabling (01463

782085) for the benefit of all members.

 

Scottish Invasive Species Initiative

Nick Barker, biologist with the Ness and Beauly Fishery Trust, has asked for members help. He would be very grateful if folk could find the time to complete the attached questionnaire either on line, or email to him or drop into Corf House and fill one in. An info flier about the project is also attached.
