Beauly Angling Club

Newsletter Feb 2019.

Fellow Anglers , On Monday February 11th our season will be starting and those of you who have put your names down for the Downie Beats will be hoping that this year we will have a run of Sea Trout as good as we had 2 seasons ago. There are still some places available so if you’re interested in fishing The Downie why not get in touch with me and I will hopefully be able to fit you in

The Opening Celebration: All members YOUNG, OLD and NEW will be welcome to attend our opening celebration at the Downie Fishing Hut approx. half a mile above the Lovat Bridge (Parking is by the Hut on Saturday 16th February) commencing at 11am. The Club is providing Free warm Sausage Rolls, Clueti cake, warm Tea or Coffee, soft drinks for Children and a Dram or two of Glen Ord’s Singleton Malt to Bless the river. We will hopefully have a Piper to Play us down to the river side where Wendy Harpe, our Chairwoman, will say a few words and then Splash some Malt onto the river to bless the River Beauly for a Good Season in 2019.

Parking at the Dutch Barn. This has been closed, but Lovat estate has made a small area with a gate exclusive to BAC members just at the side of the road down to the office above Lovat bridge, for those anglers who don’t wish to pay the BHP owner for parking at the side of Beat 1 below Lovat Bridge!! Members will be given the combination to the lock – you need to ask for it when they get their Permits. Anyone wanting to use this Carpark needs a Beauly Angling Club Sticker, you can get one from Wendy when you get your Permit and those of you who have already got your permit can get it at the celebration “Bash” on the 16th of Feb at the fishing hut.

Rules: ALL Salmon caught from opening day 11th Feb, to 30th of June “may well” be catch and release since Springers are running into June. But the club “ maybe” a Cat 1 this year but for some reason the Government has not confirmed this yet!! Wendy has spoken to them and explained that we have the membership booklets to be finished, sent out, and the club awaits their Ruling!

Sea Trout, All fish below ¾ lb to be released ALL fish above 3lbs to be released Fishers allowed to keep 2 per week and a bag limit of 6 fish per person per season. This is for our waters and not for the Downie where we will be following the Beauly Fishery Board’s Conservation Policy.

Emails to Members: As you will know the club sends out bulk e-mails to all members who have an e-mail address. This does mean that people’s e-mail addresses are available to all other members who receive the e-mail. We think this is a good thing as it allows members to communicate with other members. However, the Data Protection Act requires you to either agree that we can continue to hold and use your data (e-mail address) in this way or tell that we cannot. At the end of this letter you will find a form which you need to fill in and return to Dave Sellers.

Junior Fishing days: The Club has been trying to get Junior Fishers events out at Orrin Fishery and last year we managed 3 with about 15 to20 youngsters attending these events. This year the Club hopes to get 6 events with some at Tarvie fishery as well as Orrin Fishery, so if any of you members reading this wishes to get your children interested in one of these events, they are spinning/float fishing NOT fly fishing and they ALL catch a fish!, then you can speak to John “Yorky” Brocklehurst at the opening celebration.

I thought I should tell you long time Members, that I had an email from William (Bill) Sykes to say that he is not very well at all and that he is not fit enough to fish and cannot get up here in the Highlands all the way from Armadale A lot of you will remember Bill sitting on the bench at the side of Beat 2 in the Caravan Park and informing us that the fish were running or they ar’nt any there” its Empty” /

Tight lines. Dave.
